Shaykh Amin Kholwadia is the founder of Dar-ul-Qasim, Chicago, and an Advisor at the Department of Religious Studies of the well reputed University of Chicago.

Shaykh Amin Kholwadia Is the Founder and Director of the Darul Qasim Institute in Chicago. He is a scholar and theologian of global repute, with specializations in Islamic Spirituality, Islamic Legal Theory and Islamic Finance from well-established religious institutions in India and Pakistan. He also serves as an Advisor at the University of Chicago, University of Michigan and the Initiative of Islam & Medicine. Shaykh Amin Kholwadia serves as a community leader and has been advising Islamic schools in America for three decades.

He is the son of one of closest disciples of the well-revered Hadrat Mawlana Hussayn Ahmad al-Madani. After completing his O levels in England, Shaykh Amin travelled to India and enrolled at a prestigious Dar ul Uloom in India. There he studied under Qārī Muḥammad Ṭayyib al-Qāsimī, the grandson of Dār al-ʿUlūm’s founder, Mawlānā Muḥammad Qāsim al-Nānotwī, from whom he also received a formal ijāzah in ḥadith. He also travelled to Karachi and enrolled at the Jāmiʿat al-ʿUlūm al-Islāmiyyah in Binori Town for lessons in the Hanafi fiqh manual. Thereafter, with a thirst for knowledge, he returned to India and travelled to various Dar ul Ulooms in different cities. Having a keen interest in Islamic Spirituality, he also received an ijazah (certification) in Tasawwuf (Islamic Spirituality) from Bangalore.

After completing his classical religious education, he returned to England and relocated to Chicago in 1984. Thereafter he became involved in community outreach apart from co-authoring the book “Islamic Finance: What it is and what it could be”. He also translated Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani’s “ The Legal Status of follwing a Madhdhab” in English  while also authoring other notable publications. The translation of the first volume of the magnum opus; “Tafsir ibn Kathir” also goes to his credit. Shaykh Amin is currently working on a book on Ghazalian Eschatology. He has also contributed greatly to the field of Islamic Bioethics in the shape of noteworthy publications.

Since the establishment of Darul Qasim in Chicago, in 1998, Shaykh Amin has been involved in community outreach with fellow Muslims and non-muslims. He has continually addressed contemporary issues and sought for guidance from Islam, to help his mentees and students. His profound grasp on Islamic legality, spirituality, theology and philosophy among other academic disciplines of Islam has established him as a leading authority on these disciplines in the Islamic world. In the United Kingdom of Britain he met with the revered, Allāmah Khālid Maḥmūd’, who held him in such high regard for the sheer knowledge he possessed that he said; “I have written a book of knowledge. If you would like to read it, it is Shaykh Amin.”
