In the classical Islamic tradition, Tarbiyah preceded formal education of a student. Tarbiyah helped a student acquire the prerequisite ethics to embark on a journey of seeking knowledge. In the modern era, unfortunately tarbiyah is divorced from the process of seeking knowledge and restrictively understood only in terms of character building.
We, at Al-Qadir believe that adab (putting things in their proper places is the core of tarbiyah which is integral to the educational process as understood and enacted by the luminaries of the classical Islamic period. Adab enables seekers of knowledge to intelligently receive and perceive information and learn to extract and appropriate useful knowledge.
The Centre for Education & Tarbiyah at Al-Qadir will strive to restructure the process of learning. It will restore the integral component of tarbiyah to the trajectory of the process of education and learning, in order to produce individuals with a holistic approach in their personal and professional lives.
